Description

The mural is spread across four walls of the old washhouse of Eguilaz.
On the main entrance wall, the village, its people, and its traditions are represented through an archive image of villagers beside the road sign for the Eguilaz dolmen, accompanied by an eguzkilore that protects the village and the place.
On the second wall appear the trades once carried out in the village, especially the cultivation of the fields: against a landscape backdrop of hay bales and wheat, the village is visible. As the central motif, a horseshoe — a reference to Eguilaz having been a stopping point, home to two blacksmiths beside an inn — acts as a doorway to the past, showing how the land was once ploughed with the help of oxen yoked together.
On the third wall appear some of the region's typical products. Bees traditionally lived at this washhouse: legend has it that a nearby farmhouse kept honey in its rooms, and that when the farmer died, the first to be told the news were the bees.
Finally, on the wall of the washhouse itself, a woman carrying three buckets — one on her head and two in her hands — enters to do the washing. Beside her, baskets and the village's traditional shirt hang on a washing line. The exterior forms the woven pattern of the baskets in which the laundry was carried.
